This dialogue ran from 22 November 2009 - 17 January 2010, after which the artists were invited to discuss ideas for new work. The dialogues have now ended, but you can see and engage with the development of the selected proposals here.
AMALGAMATION Concept Proposal
What I think, feel and experience at the moment in my mind is the IDEA of being connected, being attracted or to be more specific being united. The fact, an act, the backstage reason of wanting being united (Amalgamation) itself.
This mostly subconscious phenomenon, takes place in peoples lives every moment, revealed in striving to have a beloved one, a friend, a person with whom they can live, do things etc… get united.
For Ordinary people, Artists (creating), Buddha, (unifying with universe), Jesus (love), …. Etc
The act of creative process, caring, sharing, every single moment is seemingly motivated by inner wish of being united.
The very interesting part here is the analogy of our (human) senses to the ideas, and the reactions (unification) of the ideas themselves. Which I will work on in the process of research - production.
I would like to create an environment which will reflect this idea (the metaphysical reason).
One of the ways of revealing the process is by setting the conditional units which will reflect 2 elements that are visually uniting, thus help to create the mind vision of the reason in ourselves.
“When my mind stays calm and still only some sparkling (unifying) ideas bring the excitement and the feeling of understanding something real.”

Proposal form
All our artists are invited to submit one or more proposals for new work, individually or collaboratively, by 1 April 2010. Please click here for the form:
Horn
Hi Breda and Luka,
Here are first developments of my idea for the IAA proposal. Let me know what you think if you find time.
I would like to make painting and sculpture installation with a sci-fi narrative using motif of an animal horn. For centuries the horn has been used for drinking wine during family gathering and toasting ceremonies in Georgia. It symbolises Georgian hospitality and occasion of honour. It creates magical and happy moments.
The fiction will tell a story about a British secret agency inventing horn-shaped flying and spying objects for infiltrating Georgian moment of happiness. Horn is a project of contemporary take on traditional food culture, means of social gathering and ways to reach a truly happy life. I will send more information in the proposal. Bellow are some images referring to the project.

Individual Works
Me and Andro have decided to make Individual proposals, as our vision is different in various aspects. We think to make a separate proposals and if it would be possible, link our works to each other in the process of developing. if we find it to be linkable.
Moment of Thought Provoking Procedure! What?
“The following is just a moment of thought provoking and mind purifying procedure, almost necessary for every artist”
Thank you Breda very much,
It’s pretty interesting work and what I like in here is that it is a real time thing: well almost real time! Anyway, so I always wanted to do something that corresponds to peoples (in general) understandings. For example: if I look at the cloud and I see or imagine an image of a flower… My question would be: what? How is this a flower? I see the flower and it’s not real!!! Hmm how sad… but actually only because I know that it’s not real!!!
So when we try to do something that we as individuals consider as part of our “mission” or “talent” or “passion” … every 3 of it does matter but…. stop! —-
Now to clear things out yeah: yesterday me and Andro came to a fact that we really feel what we are going to do, but do not understand it… and an actual reason why I’m writing things down could be; to clear my mind in order to understand it better.
I’m sure Andro is in the same process but behind the scenes.
Now I’m being conscience… and eventually I understand that the flower is real as much as I could feel it to be real. If there is some way that can people understand what they really want, see, and feel, is to interact In the same I would say pallet that they are, and in the same space as they exist. Actually it is almost impossible only because you can never become them and they feel as they do, because they are who they are.
Is it a solution? No but if I would say that I can feel as the other person feels than I could really understand him. Ok now I don’t think that it is so important…
Whatever matters much is this actual moment, a second when you can clearly feel the flower and you can say that it exists.
RAINBOW
The rainbow process … did you hear that? I said “the rainbow process “ logically it shouldn’t be important but if we can create something that could have a common structure with a “rainbow” and a “process” it might represent what I call the re-union of the particles when 2 becomes 1 and when 1 becomes limitless… What PARTICLES? Read on here
So as I said before you can never be an artist if you don’t write some stupid random ideas on a piece of paper.
Actually on Imagine Art After.
Making individual works
I looked at you work in catalog of Artisterium and I like your scientific approach to ideas. I think you should definitely come up with some ideas for Super Art World and what language we might speak there.
I think Luka, we probably should develop separate proposals but they might be connected as a result of these discussions we had.
I will work on my spaceship Khantsi and Electromagnetic Rainbow with paintings, drawings etc. I think I can make a more coherent work like this.
Politics or no Politics
thanks for the link, its interesting. It makes me think whether I want to deal with politics in the work for IAA project, maybe its better to tell a fairytale instead.

Let Me Start With Reality!

I can’t see any connection with visas?
Also have to agree with Breda…. about tanks…
Just have to be honest with you I don’t like the idea of visas, I think I have understood everything as it was meant to be. (please let me know if I have missed something).
To be more specific I think the visa things will be handled by governments of both UK-Georgia which are doing pretty well at the moment.
Those tanks you mentioned before are very beautiful but honestly, maybe there is something I’m missing, but I have gone through our dialog and what can I see pretty much triggered by our dialog is an actual debate on things that are present, and the viewpoint of me and you which goes to something that reveals our own vision in a way it is …. ( http://imagineartafter.org/2009/12/19/imagining-art-after-now/ the conclusion part).
Those things with bridges - connections
What most interests me in this part is the metamorphic (particle changing) aspect of the bridges but not bridges itself as connecting something.
On the other hand connection itself is an interesting phenomenon so we can think also about it.
I think we should continue to work on!
I very much like the way you see the rainbows, and your attitude towards it.
I would be glad to create something unique, I cannot yet tell you what it is.
I follow your ideas I follow my ideas and soon something great will come up.
What to do next?
I think we should not rush anywhere,
we have several more days… to get to a complete idea.
My Suggestions are to use:
The following are the topics (particles) that where actually present in our dialogue:
- ….Searching for language - a communication phenomenon.
- CHANGES “ but in a long term changes do bring interesting interconnections between what you really want and what you might have been doing in reality. How do you think about it?”
- RAINBOW The pic itself
- SUPER ART WORLD: those 1st and 2nd
I think we have triggered many interesting topics for our work.
love occupation
imagine art after is about much more than building bridges (just like love stories are about much more than ‘boy meets girl’). I’m all for humor, so if you can really make us smile…
I would like to remind you that in addition to the ‘rainbow’ project, you also apply with a series of paintings.
Building Bridges
Hi Breda,
Thank you for the helpful comments.
I do not think of it as a rebellion and I do not want the project to be about Hippie and flower power. This is just one element I though of… Maybe the tanks are too obviously flower power…
But Rainbow is a very interesting scientific phenomena. It carries in itself elements about the place it comes from. So in a sense if there was a rainbow between Newcastle and Tbilisi, a scientist in Newcastle can get to know, by analysing it, something about the particles present in Tbilisi, and vica versa. So in that sense it connects, it is a kind of bridge similar to concept of Imagine Art After. Connection from A to B, making a line, a drawing. Also I am interested in British interest in branching out and connecting, building bridges. Just think about how many of them are in London or Newcastle next to Baltic for that matter. Building bridges is part of British psyche. For Georgians at the present moment it is very important to build realistic bridges with its neighbours and distant friends.
I am talking about creating a satire, a visual narrative that reflects on Georgian (and I am sure not only Georgian) creative peoples’ aspiration for easier travel which I would like to connect and present as a criticism of the present situation with artist visas in the UK. Don’t you think this connects well?
Also, I think humour can play essential role in the project to make it involving.
Looking forward to hearing form you Breda.

love occupation
not sure about the pink tank-flower-rainbow power (which is basically a safe velvety rebellion against any governmental/military power in general) and it’s ability to address at once “…Georgian recent past” and the fact that “in the UK there are very strict rules for visas for artists… if an institution or a gallery here wants to invite an artist from overseas… they have to pay a lot of money to Home Office, and the artist has to pay a lot too, and it takes for ever to process the documents.” it
Love Occupation and Artists travels

The rocket can carry things to Georgia using Electromagnetic Rainbow. For example my colleges and very good artists Zoe Walker and Neil Bromwich who work collaboratively could be interested to work with us. They made several big inflatable pink tanks which they used for performances; Love Tanks. See the pic.
They could be interested to make an interview with me about preparation of these tanks for the flight to Georgia and occupation of its territories. Like a kind of reenactment of Georgian recent past. This video will contain packing the tanks into boxes in a warehouse and things like that. The footage we can show as part of our the installation about the use of the transportation device Electromagnetic Rainbow.
Maybe you can make an interview with some officials in Georgia about the possible impact of such a way of transportation. How can it benefit Georgia. I think it can be fun to create a fake, invented documentation which at the same time can reflect on our real problems.
From my side I want our project also to reflect on this problem: In the UK there are very strict rules for visas for artists at the moment. For example if some UK institution or gallery wants to invite an artist from overseas to come for a short stay to give a lecture, talk etc, the institution or the gallery has to pay a lot of money to Home Office and the artist has to pay a lot too and it takes for ever to process the documents. So it is almost not worth inviting artists form overseas for conferences or talks. A huge bureaucracy is going on. So our new way of transportation can be an alternative way to travel for artists purposes. We can write a letter to the UK government demanding to considering artists under their scheme called Special Circumstances and to let the artists travel thought the Electromagnetic Rainbow. We can exhibit that letter as part of the installation too.
Food for thought for the young Georgian architect: Today I was listening to the radio BBC 4 and heard that there has been invented some kind of machine which can
receive light from other planets and dissect it into a rainbow. This rainbow is analyzed afterwords to tell us about different things on that planet.
Individual pieces, collaborative installation
I can work on several versions of the Rocket and send them over to you. We can discuss them with each other, but we can still make individual pieces that can function on their own as well as can come together in one installation. which can be presented as a pseudo documentation of a research.
Proposal

I cant stop thinking about wanting to make a Spaceship or Rocket that will fly using electromagnetic Rainbow to Georgia to connect us and serve as an alternative way of communicating between UK and Georgia. What do you think about making a project into an installation which will present models, blue-prints, and maybe video about showing the research about the alternative travel?
I have looked at your sketches and blueprints of the bridge you made and I think you have good skills to design the launcher and the electo-magnetic Rainbow. It can be seen in a sense as designing a bridge to send Rocket Kantsi back and forth.

what do YOU want (really)
back to basics - (I) what do YOU want to say? (II) how is your desire going to inhabit the language (medium) you intend to use?

Afterthoughts on our dialogue
Gaumarjos Lukas,
My thoughts are about ways of communicating, building bridges…
I think you have been to the UK several times, haven’t you? When was the last time you visited? I am thinking about what would be the key elements that can interest people to communicate between Georgia and UK? What do you think are possible similarities in terms of social structure and qualities of the Georgian and British nations/individuals?
I think would be nice to create an imaginary device for communicating between us.
x Andro
iaa dialogue official end date 17 Jan. however…
some dialogues will continue
after midnight
Thank you!
Those of you who have expressed interest in communicating beyond today’s end date can do so by either continuing the current dialogue, or by migrating to another ‘country’ and establishing a dialogue with a new artist/filmmaker. The IAA team will stay with you.
Thank you…everyone.
Love,

Imagine Art After’s last Post by Luka
I thought about how important it was for artists to share their ordinary and at the same moment unique life stories with each-other. And how socializing the ideas can help Artists to understand their own world. The dialog process was interesting and counter productive for me and my partner Andro Semeiko. Imagine Art After has done a great work for the development of interactive connections between artists; the live example is me and Andro.
Little Secret here:
We like the Idea of the dialog and it is most likely that we will continue our dialog outside IAA. We might also create a new blog together with andro, or might use LukaZet.com for our cooperative projects. Of course awaiting Andros answer about this idea. I would like to say big thanks to IAA Team, and special Thanks to Breda Beban who made this not only possible, but actually happen.

Every Day is a New Year
You know it exactly, it seems Georgia never stops to celebrate. 2nd NewYears is a bit strange though. I’ve started to work on my projects straight after the Main NewYear, even though rest of the country still celebrates the second NewYear. But I’m sure monday will be more productive for many.
Sorry no watermelons Yet
Cheers

Today is a second day of new year in Georgia

so how you are going to spend this day will define the rest of the year,
I am off to make some art at my studio and will meet some friends later.
Also I am thinking about khachapuri and Georgian watermelons… Luka could you please send some over for me in the shuttle, if you will find time of course?

blank
what do I “feel when making art or a film”? I go blank.
Question
You touched interesting themes in this Post. Question: what do I want? if I read this question straight, without contexts or my subjective beliefs, than wanting is already an emotionally empowered word - if we WANT art or something else than it will be motivated exactly by curiosities, passions and likings which already pre-describe the hidden desire or goal which we try to pursue. I cannot answer your question as my answer will regret the question itself so I will ask another question: What do you feel when you create art or a film? Luka

What do ‘I’ want?
“All blueprints of what people should be like are at once denials of reality and attempts to create it anew. It is one of the peculiar characteristics of human wanting that it always involves being persuaded about what it is one should want. This persuasion, which takes many forms – from brainwashing to education, from seduction to conversation – is one way of describing the experience of growing up in any society.
The wanting without which human survival is impossible is symbolically organised; wanting is inextricable from what our societies tell us we should want. If our loves and hates, our likings and our curiosities, our passions and aversions ‘come under conceptual definition, manipulation and control’, then there is no natural state in which we can live, or to which we can return. Indeed, the whole notion of a natural state, or significant origin, is itself one of those culturally generated conceptual definitions.”
Whether in country of origin or in country of destination, one burning question seem to overlap - What is it that we really want? What do you really want your art or filmmaking to do?
Secular life
Christian religion is the basis of the morals of the society here but really even most people who go on Sunday to church and say they believe they really are less involved in it then any Georgian believer would be. Basically, most white Christians in England except some sects lead a secular life.
x Andro
New Generation and Religious Dogmatism
That must be a horrible time then, I remember those war periods like a scene from a movie. As a child it looked like everything was fine, during the war in Tbilisi, and in Sukhumi, that’s probably when child’s defensive feelings work well. But on religious part it was pretty dogmatic always in Georgia.
Religious Dogmatism
Probably things have changed a little bit for a category of people - mostly young. Still the majority remains in the same dogmatic position. I remember when one of my friends told me with amazement that one of the new churches has got 12 little churches inside and some golden engravings on candle holders. As I was a bit skeptical towards the church in general I ask him what was the motivation of his such a great amazement towards material aspects of the church and if he knew the meanings of some religious rituals or why does he follow them. He couldn’t really answer me and just said something like this: you are not aloud to speak about it, or criticize the traditions! It is definitely understandable how this religious dogmatism work and how it appears in the society. So from this example you can clearly see the unconscious process of religious fanatics. I can not judge personal beliefs as I do respect them in a way, but I can certainly say that most part of personal, spiritual progress in religious part comes from mostly conscious activities as well as unconscious.
Surely things change and things are being re-evaluated, as people become tired of bounded senses, and strict directions.
How would you describe British aspects of religious life?
Religion and New Generation
Hi Luka,
The Christmase in Georgia I remember the most was after the war in Abkhazia and it was very gloomy experience. Mothers of dead soldiers dressed in black crying and praying… There was a disturbingly dogmatic church I remember but there was a true sence of spirituality between people, grief was shared.
These pics you posted make me see young people are more positive about life in Georgia.Who organised this event, and are the young people taking part deeply religious? Maybe Christmas for young Georgians is becoming less religious and more traditional festive celebration?
I didn’t understand what you mean that “secret codes must be revealed by public at the same second they appear or start to become secrets.” Please explain to me, sound intriging.
I also agree we should think more on other ways of working together. Would you like to suggest something?
Take care,
Andro
Orthodox Christmas in Georgia
As in Orthodox country, today 7th of January is Christmas in Georgia. I hear prayers from my neighbor’s TV and Seeing Candles lighted in almost every window. This holiday is one of the most popular in Georgia, tomorrow almost every street will be closed for public walk and religious ceremonials. All residents of countries: Macedonia, Ukraine, Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Russia, Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus and Moldova – Merry Christmas to you.
Andro do you Remember any Christmas while in Georgia?

Thoughts on Secrets, Kantzi – New Year
Andro thank you very much for wonderful greetings - real Georgian style
. I want to wish you calmness, good feelings, and great steps in this New 2010 YEAR.
Oh the Kantsi, its been a long time since I’ve tried drinking from it.
How is your New Year Starting?
Shuttle Kantzi,
Andro this is interesting, I think this is a very productive and hard working experience! I would like to hear more description about the shuttle kantzi electronic device, what do you think would it be like?
Thoughts about Secrets,
In a way I think secrets are great when they represent personal feelings, but in a global context it seems a bit un-open.
So if we are decided on this project: I would like to add a little detail which I believe will bring more openness and interaction with the world.
I think secret codes must be revealed by public at the same second they appear or start to become secrets. How do you like this one?
Alternative Project: Also before we get to the production process, I think we should think more on other types and ways of our WORK.
My suggestion is to keep more active dialog during the upcoming days.

Shuttle Kantzi
In addition to the secret code I think we need to develop more things.
I think we need to find an alternative transportation device between our communities. We will want to visit each other sometime in the future, wont we?
I will start making blueprints for the device; provisional name Shuttle Kantzi. This Kantzi will be able to travel through an electromagnetic rainbow, similar to the one you can see in my blog bellow from November 30th and it will connect your and my art communities, from Georgia to UK and back…
Will be in touch with the sketched of the device shortly.

Artists’ Dialect
Hi Luka,
I agree that art is and works as a language and that is great. And we just have to continue making art and get it out there and it communicates. But what about also creating a secret code for communication between art tribes over internet? We can work on it as an artwork. A project called Artists Dialect for example, with an element of humour and a realisation that it might fail, but the journey to try to think about it can produce something interesting?
Lets discuss some rules for communication between you and me:
a. Next time we talk to each other over skype we should whisper.
b. If we are going to send each other pictures lets blur them first so no one else can decode the image.
etc…
can you come up with some?
Best wishes, Andro
Imagining Art After -Now
Good Evening Andro,
About the secret art language:
It is interesting even though it’s so much utopian but may have some fun with inventing the new language, I think we already have our language which is art itself and I see how nicely you use it in this dialog. I think art will never get hurt from corporate as they will never be able to get the true point of it.
Just now was thinking of what would art after be like? What I did is: I have simply written down several existing components of the practical aspects of Art today.
Beside the essence of art what else is configuring art today
Information:
TV, Newspapers, Music, Sounds, Drawing, Video, etc…
And it all comes up as expression or self expression.
Shapes and forms of Art Today
Installation – Installation which has many connections with sculpture and architecture today is one of the most spread ways of expressing art.
Performance – For me performances are something like acting for some specific reason, still think that it has a lot in common with tribal rituals.
Media Art – Bounded to technology, created specially for lazy talented people.
Music- which might also be part of media art has always had significant emotional (positive or negative) effect on people.
Some Oldest techniques used today
Drawing – coming since the guy who had fist painted an animal on the rock. Doesn’t really matter how it started, it is still one of the strongest known method of self-expressing.
Sculpting – an art of making shapes and forms. Long period has passed since it changed its original form, can say the same about art in general.
Writing – was always a good way of expressing personal (physical or mental) experiences. Even though writing might not fall in the original category of art, I think many great writers have had the artistic nature which in essence revealed thoughts in the written shape, thus creating the basic mental process (position) similar as art does.
Every above mentioned ways of expressing art may evoke emotion, inspire people or provoke certain mental action. And what they all have in common is that it is made by individual, or a group of individuals.
Even though forms of expressing have varied from time to time, technology today has a big impact on what is art today.
So what is art today and what it might be in future? – Imagine Art After
If closely considered the fact of distinguishing art from other ways of personal expressions, it has always been powered by individuals who have created this or that art work. Think of any period when art was nothing but drawing on a peace of rock. What was its value?
If you agree that everything that has a value has it because we think it is valuable or important, than you can clearly see how individual qualities consider the future position of art. Or maybe art that is close to some kind of objective truth is considered as true art? Recently one of my friends asked me after she saw my work with Natuka.G “The INFO TUBE” on “artisterium 09”: Luka what do you call objective truth? Isn’t objective the general thought of many people about something? My answer was: Of-course Not! What later came up to me was that even my opinion about Objective Truth is totally different, generally- objective is considered as something acknowledged by many human beings, or created cliché from many similar subjective opinions.
In the previous subheading I consciously didn’t mention a sense or essence of art, to leave some space for you to imagine what is art in reality and what would it be in future. Also so that corporate won’t understand things clearly
.
Conclusion
Not going far in philosophy something that came up to me as a result of strong belief in art as a wonderful medium of self expression gives me the right to say that art after, which might have different shapes will be always essentially empowered by an individual himself.
How do you imagine art today and in future?
SEARCHING for a language?
Hi Luka,
Yes I am still in Berwick-upon-Tweed. Its misty and freezing at the moment, but its dry here so its not too cold. I just have to cycle carefully home…
Thank you for telling me the ideas around your work in progress “SEARCH”. The ideas sound worthwhile working on.
I think when we are looking to achieve something we often fail to acknowledge that the process of SEARCHING might be more important and fruitful for us then actually executing an idea. Its good to have the idea as a goal, but the beauty is that it will change while we are on the way to it. The idea will become more sophisticated and less idealist.
But I think its great to maintain a little bit of idealism.
It is great to see your enthusiasm about finding different ways of communicating for artists.
I suppose corporate world haven’t yet understood and integrated tribe communications. Therefore maybe, having Imagine Art After as a platform of connecting art communities, you and I can develop an art language or a set of codes of conduct, like secret societies do?
I mean not something excluding other artists but a way of communicating that wouldn’t be as a ‘matter-of-fact’ for sales tactics of corporate world?
If you are interested lets discuss and research that. Please also let me know your ideas about the ways of communicating, you might have better ones.
x Andro

SEARCH and Corporate Domination
Hi Andro,
It is 7 am in Tbilisi now,
Got 2 more projects for design of books, which is good but takes some nice portion of time
.
The Basic Concept around my work in progress “SEARCH”:
The Part shown here is only the 4th one so its hard to see the concept clearly, the basic thing which is going on in parts 1,2,3 is the revealing of different Ambitious WISHES. Everything starts from SEARCHING the wishes on the Net.
Where 1st is connected with Goals the perfective vision of future, and so on, till the ambitious wishes transform into basic needs like searching for food etc…
I believe that every human being well at least most
has the power to achieve his/her wishes no matter how impossible it might seem.
So this work in progress is showing some kind of transition where people loose their ambitious wishes (mostly Brilliant), which is a sad reality for many.
Drawing
Of course I draw when I feel to,
Sometimes it seems hard to take time to draw, work, design, think of other projects, etc…but you know it is something that I think every Artist must try not to loose no matter what other media he is working on.
Corporate Domination
It’s good that you take time to discus things with your friends; it will be great to hear comments from your friend also. I agree that the companies who’ll use the community concept their power will increase, but even though many companies might use it, I don’t think that this might somehow affect artists; even more; It might help people to become more socially interested in art communities. The only downside I see is that some category of people might be aware of any kinds of communities at all, in case if those corporate offers will start to annoy them again. Generally I think that many huge companies have always used people for their own needs, so I don’t think that this can damage already existing Art communities.
And yes if we create something new, a different way of communication it would be wonderful, and I’m sure that it wouldn’t be a problem at all. Artists always manage to create things that nobody else has ever thought of; In this case history is on our side.
How do you think is it time for artists to think for a new way of communication?
Still in Berwick?
Art Discussions over Dinner
Hi Luka,
Thanks for the link to your work in progress. What is its general concept or framework?
Thank you for your comments about Baron, it is one of my favourites too. Do you paint sometimes?
My weekend was good. I came down to London and had dinner with my girlfriend and several friends at our place. We talked about art and I showed them your and my IAA blog. They were quite skeptical of Seth Godin’s agenda and political position. I hope one of my friends will comment on it later.
I think its great at the moment to communicate like we do between artists groups and I hope more Georgian artists will adopt and gain from communication and information through such sources. But if corporate companies are going integrate their sales tactics into tribe like communication, it will result in their domination. And artists will have to look for different ways of communicating I think.
Aba he,
Andro
Project SEARCH part 4
Hi andro,
Thank you for the emotional answer about the SUPER ART WORLD, just want to state that my point is not about making it super or not. But I think analyzes will never hurt, we will definitely manage to speak about in person. Didn’t mention about your paintings, they are pretty impressive especially the “BARON”. How was your weekend btw?
This is one of my latest Video projects which I’m working on at the moment yet.

SUPER ART WORLD ?
Hi Luka,
From my own experience I can see that connecting to different art communities has been essential for my development as an artist. Communication with them happens most of the time by e-mail and internet. So the experience I have of these communities and individuals is mainly virtual. I get a lot of interesting ideas about art from them and hopefully they get from me too. As a result we end up doing projects together and also physically visiting each others places. I enjoy this and I would like this to grows.
But I don’t think I would like this to turn into an art world/a network operating on a level of mass media. It will not be art anymore I think. Why would you want a SUPER ART WORLD anyway? I do believe that art communities all over the world will be at some point highly interconnected and one might call it a kind of one art world, but for it to stay a creative and exciting place there will have to be strong separations within it.
Otherwise there will be too much information, and there wont be many genuine messages and much creativity in it.
Take care,
Andro Semeiko
Community Concept – SUPER ART WORLD
Good point about the imagine art after, community concept (or super art concept).
To continue this theme I would like to bring up some of the root concepts of this IDEA. This is a marketing strategy of the new era for the huge companies operating online like Google, yahoo and others. This Idea was based on internet researches of the consumer’s reaction on this or that offer. Essentially the normal marketing concept was far not efficient any more this days, as people did get aware of other (unknown) people offerings - something on the net or ads that appear unexpectedly.
When analyzing this issue this questions might come up:
What motivates people to say that about institutional art life?
and
What was the basis to think this would be possible or that this is important?
Would it help to create super ART world?
Is it possible for ART to be as co-productive as other social media mass production products? Whether it is possible or not, art does have a platform, and it does influence people to take certain action on this or that mostly mental issues.
As an explanatory to this I would like to hear a position, an opinion or something that stays behind, this idea from your point of view. - Simply, what do you think about the informational potential of art as means of mass share culture?
This Video here might have certain answers (in general) to this question. Also bringing the aspect of CHANGES.
Rainbow
Hi Luka,
Yes I am interested in knights and castles. I like armour as a thing that disguise human being. But actually we ended up not going to see the castle, we took a walk by the beach and then got a big lobster from a local fisherman and had a nice meal.
People talk today that there wont be centres of art anymore. There will be more communities from around the world that are strongly connected to each other. So I suppose what Imagine Art After is doing by these discussions is facilitating a kind of experience close to that.
I am attaching a picture of an amazing rainbow we saw from my bedroom window this morning.

KNIGHTS FROM THE UK!
Just checked the map for Berwick it is quite far from London. Great place on first look searches on Google show up with the images of bridges and old beautiful castles, so its quite closely brings the associations of knights. Interested in your works with knights are they somehow connected to Uk? (might be or not) Or more to your childhood?
Changes!
Let me also try to connect changes with Imagine Art After, I think IAA is also one of the ways of changing the Art reality which might be sometimes exactly as you called (circulating up to date ideas), to something, lets say different in a Wider Context. Do let me know your opinion about this project also.
Have a good journey in the CASTLE,
Luka
English-Scottish boarder
Berwick-upon-Tweed is on an eastern coast of English-Scottish boarder. It is cold place in the winter. But at the moment it is surprisingly mild and sunny. My girlfriend came to visit so we have been parting last night with my local new friends. We also went to see the band The Unthanks. Today we are going to a nearby castle.
I haven’t lived for a long period of time anywhere else then London for the last 9 years. So changes of location are not so common for me but I feel they must be good for me. Particularly such an inspiring place like this.
Changes?
Good evening Andro,
Thanks for an interesting explanation of making art in Uk. Have never heard of Berwick-Upon-Tweed and not really sure where it is geographically, is it cold there? I love changes even though some might seem to be difficult to analyze, but in a long term changes do bring interesting interconnections between what you really want and what you might have been doing in reality. How do you think about it? Are changes common to you?
Making art in Berwick-upon-Tweed
It’s the first time I am going to be living for a long period of time outside of London in the UK, and I can see that my motivations to make art are already different.
There is a small art world in a nearby town Newcastle upon Tyne that is developing into something more centred and with a character rather then always referring to London and celebrating artists from there. I went to see and meet people in Newcastle upon Tyne couple of times and I can see it is a good place to get involved. But here I have to self motivate myself… it is different… and I feel its good for me for a change to be in a place like Berwick-upon-Tweed where I have to discover things to make art about, rather then to be in a place where you are constantly aware of art world and all the circulating up to date ideas.
So I am thinking now; maybe for most of the artists it is going to be good to travel and live in different places for reinventing themselves and being sharp…
Good evening to you Luka,
Andro
Georgian melons and making art in London
Luka,
I love Georgian melons. This work sound like fun. And I would love to take part together with you in some projects there if appropriate work comes up.
About motivations to make art in the London:
The structure is here for you to be encouraged to make art: There are many good art colleges here. There are so many art exhibitions and events to see everyday of the week. There is clearly present art market here today.
This constant encouragement is both good and bad. There are many people here who got into art because it is fashionable or just think of it as a business.
If you are genuinely interested making art and you are ready to experiment you just can’t avoid making it here. There are many interesting artists in London who hardly survive on their income from making art but they still continue and often do part-time jobs.
But I suppose motivation to make art are different in the rest of the UK…
Best, Andro
Motivations might Prosper
I’m glad that you do share my feelings of motivations on the importance of space, sense and people. Didn’t new that you was from Ozurgeti, actually people there are great I wish I had a video uploaded from the Ozurgetian artists works. I definitely will format it an upload it somewhere, but I’ve got one of the stills here:

This work is called in a very strange, like Ozurgetian slang ) Titled: “deetxuet xatvas” (something like enough drawing) and that guy made the video about a watermelon seller who is actually drawing on Watermelons, and sells them very effectively because of that, he seems very popular through the Ozurgetian Watermelon consumers. ) So the artist Giorgia Darchia who is probably about 45+ years and has never worked with Video, has made pretty wonderful work, with a special music selected “Nina Simone – Sinnerman”. His message was probably towards all those ozurgetian artists who never stop drawing Still life and Landscapes in an Academic way. What was the funniest story there that the watermelon seller actually came to the exhibition and as a result became even more popular than before; he gave interviews to almost every huge Georgian TV channels. But Probably now he is waiting for the next watermelon season
.
I think that we might continue this project next year (depends on funding) and I would be glad to invite you to join us. You might have a good impact on Ozurgetians as you are from that area. what do you think?
Strip tease!
Yes you are right it was like that several years ago, but now many girls do dance and well some part are Georgians but about half of them say that they are Ukrainians, and have invented new names for themselves, it seems it is because to prevent them from being followed or anything else. I met one of them who is very interesting person as she did tell me all this stuff about their job, but even though they got big salary, still have not so big freedom as most of the time they spent dancing strip tease and sleeping as well as lot of restrictions are applied in their contracts.
Sorry have no image from there
.
That IceAge film is pretty funny haven’t seen the whole movie though, I was just tagged by one of my friend that’s why it appeared on my profile.
Ok so you didn’t drink a lot, I thought you went to the Pub.
Luka
Georgian Strip Tease?
Forgot to ask you. How did you visit to Strip Club go?
Did you talk to the girls? About 10 years ago I cant imagine any girl openly working in a place like that without being looked down on by the conservative Georgian society. I wonder if things are different now… are there any Georgian girls working there? Andro
Motivations
Hi Luka,
I think it is a great idea to travel around Georgia and participate and collaborate with local artists like you did. That hasn’t been happening much before and sound like a positive and exciting development. I am by origin from one of the cities you mentioned, Ozurgeti. After what you just said I got excited and started to imagine that an art world can exist in Ozurgeti too…
Thank you for your reply about your motivations. I agree that the key points to be motivated to make art in Georgia must be what you said; the space in all the aspects, and of the sense and attitude of people there.
And maybe it is also interesting and exciting to do art there because things have not been shaped yet into a solid art world and your steps together with others can be defining the future of it? Do you think this is also part of your motivations?
I will start thinking about my motivations to make art in UK and will post it shortly.
Andro
PS: Oh whiskey… yes I did have couple shots last night with a friend but it wasn’t as romantic as I planed it. I tried to light the fireplace but failed to do it, and gave up.
I spend my time on internet. In fact I looked at your Facebook post from one of the Ice Age films. From which one of them is that clip:1, 2 or 3?
Making Art in Georgia – Essential Reasons
Working on the web design project at the moment, for a book shop, yes Georgian one.
The process itself is quite interesting as I have the whole freedom of imagination to use there.
About your question on my motivation of creating art in Georgia:
I would say that for me personally it is work and creative process anywhere wherever artist performs, but of course everything has got the reason. At this moment I do find good inspiration to work in Georgia as I believe it (Georgia in general) does have lots of good qualities in it which are either hidden or misused. I would not call it a physical quality but simply speaking a sense, some might call it differently but you can definitely feel it if you want.
For physical aspects there are many advantages and disadvantages, as you might know there are many very big material (financial) problems for a large number of Georgian population, but on the other hand if you notice their style of living or their total happiness of being so much relaxed at some little moments, makes them to love their way of life. (but yes they do complain J ) last statement Doesn’t apply to every non-working Georgian!
So this situation creates multiple cultural variations of the way of life, and essentially you find interesting aspects of working in these surroundings where Money can mean everything and at the same moment nothing at all, where old can be new, and where nothing really matters. I feel that stating my opinion in this or in any other society Is important as for me as well as for the society in general.

One of my latest project together with Niko Tsetsxladze, Archil Turmanidze and Eto Gabashvili which was called “Sak[ART]verlo” (GEORGIA in georgian) was basically aimed to work with regional artists and create group exhibitions in several cities (Kutaisi, Ozurgeti, Poti, Batumi, - Tbilisi) and what I found out that people are totally different in every single region, for example in Kutaisi, some artist had forgot about being artists and had no motivation of any creative process except working on a regular job. Most of them stated that would like to cooperate in future; you know FUTURE seems wonderful for many
. On the other hand in Ozurgeti and Poti an almost totally destroyed city especially after the war, artist of all ages some who have never heard of performance or video installations created wonderful works which has aroused great interest towards them.
For this moment I would call it: Space, a Sense, People; that motivate me to work here, but I have no boundaries in this aspect as every single part of the world is interesting and I’m sure that I’ll work/live in different edges of the planet in a specific time.
And what motivates you to work in the UK? How was your Whiskey day btw, had a lot?
Strip club?
Interesting, you are all into it from the morning, seems your love to Whisky is very strong. One of my friends invited to the Strip Club tonight.
Definitely lots of drinking will take place. Not quite up to drinking, I’d rather prefer speaking with dancers who seem quite interesting as a phenomenon for me. As an Observation of their lifes.
Will be glad to share more tomorrow.
Have a good Whisky Sunday. Cheers, Luka
Why make art in Georgia?
You seem to have got on with your Sunday already. Let me know how fruitful it has been tomorrow. And would also love to hear from you what motivates you to make art at the moment in Georgia? Andro
Whiskey
Maybe its you who never stops thinking Luka, I am a little bit brain dead now after staying up like you most of the night. It is a nice sunny morning here in Berwick-upon-Tweed too. But I decided to be lazy, will drink some whiskey…. but do tell me your intentions for this Sunday, whats it gonna be like?
Andro
Total Lunatics Here
Seems we both had a long and interesting night Yesterday,
Hope we won’t feel like total Lunatics Here..
Luka
Tbilisi Home LIVE!
I’m glad to say hello to Imagine Art After participants, Breda Beban, to Andro Semeiko live on the net, with whom we had a chance to meet several times in Georgia. After a long yesterday’s nights creative process of a “thought” Sunday 4pm seems like a wonderful morning here in Georgia. I call this process a “thought” as for me when a person is half asleep but never stops active thinking about probably all the things, interests, imaginations, which are all around him.
How are you Andro? How is you Sunday?
in Berwick-upon-Tweed
Hi, I am at the moment in Berwick-upon-Tweed, on English-Scottish boarder, doing a residency at Berwick Museum and Gymnasium Gallery. I will be having my solo show here in April next year. Its a very beautiful place, I can see the sea from my window, and its very quiet in comparison to London. The beaches are nice and I even went for a swim with the curator of the gallery. See us struggling with the waves. I am also posting a pic of the museum where is my studio on the 2rd floor and a pic of a nearby island with a castle.
I have been painting and sculpting all night last night, I have no time limits and schedules here, but I do feel like a lunatic as a result now. I think I need couple of whiskeys by a fireplace tonight to get back in shape…
What have you been up to Luka?
Welcome
Welcome to imagine art after! Luka, Andro, where are you now? What are you up to?
