Violana Murataj in Parku Rinia (the Youth Park), Tirana, her favourite place in Albania
Violana Murataj’s videos and photographs are understated explorations of the shifting value system of the society she grew up in. The riots and armed revolt, which she experienced as a teenager, separated her youth under communism from her contemporary life. In her recent collaborative work she combines photography with text and film to engage in the archaeology of memory and the city of Tirana.
After her 2005 dialogue with UK-based artist Denis Hyka, imagine art after commissioned Hyka and Murataj to create a new collaborative work for exhibition at Tate Britain, Finding Grandma’s Garden.
