Denis Hyka in De Beauvoir Town, London, his favourite place in the UK
Based in London since 1997, Denis Hyka has not been back to Albania. His drawings range from romantic portrayals of sensual love to the streetscapes of his youth in Tirana. Dreamlike in quality and rich in detail, they capture the urgency to record fleeting moments with a passionate yet determined line. In his recent collaborative work Hyka combines drawing with text and film to tell stories about his experience of exile.
After his 2005 dialogue with Albania-based artist Violana Murataj, imagine art after commissioned Hyka and Murataj to create a new collaborative work for exhibition at Tate Britain, Finding Grandma’s Garden.
