Hi Bindu and Didier
…yes, the end of some wonderful moments of discussions, stimulation and learning for me. Many thanks for your insightful and open discussions. I hope that we will stay in touch.
Yes Bindu, it would be nice to speak a bit more about this issue of the Continent V the Country and our thinking within and beyond. I believe that many African people are very clear about their specific Nationalities, and that their sense of pride comes from this specificity of Nationhood. And for many artists, thier work shows this. Maybe, my position is that the kind of work I am attempting to do is not limited to my National boundary; or I should say I would prefer not to geographically restrict my thinking about what I do - so when I speak/show Cameroon in my film, I believe that I am showing about aspects of African culture and lived experiences; just like making a film about women in Zanzibar reveals something about women in that space as well as an aspect or a slice of reality about women on the continent. The Pan-Africanist would see this.
Actually, there’s a movement called Third Cinema – a counter and independent cinema that “opposes dominant film institutions” - Latin American Cinema, African Cinema, etc - it’s a collective…
Ok my dear friends, stay well and be safe.
Florence
